To create a world of thousand different shining colours cast in new forms and structures is what lies at the heart of Sabine Wiedenhofer‘s work. By this, she seeks to constantly push her creative vision, while transcending the boundaries of the surrounding world. On these grounds, light plays an important role for moving towards the fifth dimension.
This is also the basis of Schlosskapelle Merkenstein, a privately owned chapel in Lower Austria. Here, she conceived chapel windows by updating her cube series - 4825 pieces of building glass blocks, all handmade in Murano. Working with ‘tesserae’ of different height and depth Sabine Wiedenhofer created floating colour transitions which cause the sunlight to refract into zillion shades that spread throughout the chapel as an immaterial echo, thus recalling the essence of the divine.

Es ist eine der Leidenschaften von Sabine Wiedenhofer: neue Formen, Strukturen und eine Welt aus tausend verschiedenen leuchtenden Farben zu erschaffen. Licht ist die Basis ihrer fünfdimensionalen Kreationen.
Sie schuf die Fenster der Schlosskapelle Merkenstein (eine Privatkapelle in Niederösterreich) mit einer neuen Version ihrer Würfelserie – für dieses spektakuläre Ergebnis mussten 4825 Glasbausteine, eine handgefertigte Produktion aus Muranoglas, geschaffen werden. Unterschiedliche Höhen und Tiefen und da Wiedenhofer sich entschieden hat, ohne jegliche Bleiklammern zu arbeiten, konnte der Künstler fließende Farbübergänge erzeugen, die das Sonnenlicht durch und zwischen jedem Glasblock auf tausende verschiedene Arten verteilen Farbnuancen in der gesamten Kapelle.
